Beach Street & The Embarcadero • San Francisco, CA 94133
Score (6 out of 10)
Pier 39 San Francisco, a premier Fisherman’s Wharf destination, is highly regarded as a fun and diverse tourist-mecca. Although this Website typically doesn’t list theme/festival centers, this one was worthy of mention due to its attraction to local residents, too.
As a major attraction, Pier 39 typically has multiple live events occurring at the same time, all for free (although donation are accepted). Or, you can watch the hustle and bustle of the ferries loading and offloading. There is always something to see and you can easily spend a day here just being entertained.
Most shops are one-of-a-kind stores, but quite a few national mall-type stores have begun to appear. You can also find the Hard Rock Cafe, a popular tourist destination, and the Aquarium of the Bay.
Tourist information is available at the California Welcome Center, which is the official state of California Visitor Information Center.
You’ll find a boatload of restaurants and eateries. Some favorites include Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Chic’s Seafood Restaurant & Bar, the Crab House, Neptune’s Palace Seafood Restaurant, and Swiss Louis. Many offer stunning views of the Bay or City.
Parking is relatively easy (but not free) in their garage across the street, which is connected by a sky bridge. Pier 39 is also served by MUNI’s F line ($1.25 fare, $0.35 over 65 years of age, payable aboard the streetcar). You can also walk to the adjoining Fisherman’s Wharf area, which is great for people watching, seafood, and world-famous San Francisco sourdough bread.
Pier 39 is located in San Francisco CA, on The Embarcadero, near Beach Street and Grant Avenue.
Much of the lumber used on the walkways, stairs, railings, and exterior siding was recycled from original 1900’s era waterfront buildings.
